Parkes Energy Recovery
August Update

Good afternoon

Over the past few months, we have been listening to your feedback and have heard that you want more information. This email marks the first of our monthly updates, where I’ll share more about Energy-from-Waste, the progress being made on the project and answer questions we’re hearing.

The highlight of August was meeting so many of you at the Parkes Show. Thank you to everyone who came by to have a chat and share what matters most to you. I’m grateful for your openness and honesty.

One of the strongest themes from those conversations was the importance of understanding, and having confidence in, the safety of the facility for the health of people, animals, and the environment in and around Parkes. We hear you and I want to make sure you have accurate information about the technology we’ll use and how it will operate. We’ll be providing that information over the coming months, and the data will come through the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which is underway.

I’m confident that the results from the EIS will demonstrate the facility’s safety to you, and I look forward to sharing the results of those when they’re complete.

Thank you again for your interest in the project. I look forward to continuing these conversations and keeping you informed each month.

Until next month,

Ed Nicholas

What’s happened this month?

We were proud to be part of the Parkes Show in late August. It was fantastic to meet so many of you, answer your questions and hear your views about the project.

We have published a Q&A that responds to questions shared by GAIA. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can download it here.

We’ve secured a permanent drop-in space in Parkes where you’ll be able to come and talk with us directly, ask questions and access information about the project. We’ll keep you updated on when that’s open.

Work is continuing on the EIS. We are currently preparing scoping reports, which are expected to be submitted to the NSW Government later this month. This is only the very beginning of the process, and no decisions have been made.

Myth of the month

Myth

The Parkes Energy Recovery facility is just an incinerator.

Fact

Unlike incinerators, which are old and outdated, the Parkes facility will use proven, modern Energy-from-Waste technology which operates safely in 800+ cities and regions worldwide.

It converts non-recyclable waste into reliable energy, operating under strict environmental controls to turn waste into a valuable resource.
