Parkes Energy Recovery
April Update

april update

Good afternoon,

This month was all about listening to your feedback, and we’re pleased to see so many of you take part in the Parliamentary Inquiry hearings.

We ran open days during that time, and we enjoyed chatting with local farmers and interested residents who came in to see us.

One thing has been loud and clear: you want to see the evidence that supports this facility.

We hear you, and we’re working on it. It’s detailed, it’s important, and it takes time to do it right.

The technical studies we are completing – including air quality, human health, agricultural impact, environmental protection, traffic, greenhouse gas and more – will do just that.

When they are ready, we’ll be in Parkes, Forbes, online and in person, to share those results clearly and openly.

Before then, we will let you know what you can expect from us and when you can expect to see it, so we can make sure you have what you need to make an informed opinion.

In the meantime, you can speak with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) at their drop-in session tomorrow, Thursday 7 May, from 12pm to 7pm at the Parkes International Motor Inn (Conference Room).

They’ll be there to speak about how the proposal will be assessed once we submit our development application and Environmental Impact Statement.

You can register here.

As always, if you have any questions, please call, email and make a time to visit us at our office.

Until next month,
Ed Nicholas
Director, Parkes Energy Recovery

What’s happened this month?

The Select Committee on Proposed Energy from Waste Facilities held a hearing and public forum in April to hear the community’s views on the project. It heard from people who support the project, oppose the project and those who still have concerns and questions. We spoke with residents in Parkes, and look forward to upcoming hearings in Sydney and Tarago. Special thanks to Committee Chair, The Hon. Nichole Overall, MLC, and The Hon. Scott Barrett, MLC, for making time to come out to the project site and see for themselves what’s happening in the Special Activation Precinct and where our proposed facility is going to be located.

DPHI is holding a drop-in session tomorrow, Thursday 7 May, from 12pm to 7pm, at the Parkes International Motor Inn (Conference Room). We encourage all those interested to learn how the proposal will be assessed to attend. You can register here.

We’re continuing to progress our Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), including detailed technical studies that will provide the site-specific evidence. We look forward to sharing these details when they’re ready.

Myth of the month

Myth

Technical questions about the facility can’t be answered.

Fact

Technical detail is a fundamental requirement of any decision being made about the facility. These reports can take months to complete, but once they are they will be made publicly available for community review and feedback before any decision is made. We expect that will happen later this year.
